South American Camelids Comparison Test
A special workshop was held at the ISAG 2008 conference to discuss standardization of genotyping nomenclature for microsatellite markers used in parentage testing panels for alpacas and llamas. The need for standardization arose from the increasing exchange of genotype records between registries, and lack of a uniform panel and allele designations among laboratories providing the genotyping services. A consensus of the workshop was that the standardization process needed to be expedited. To this end, it was agreed that a special comparison test would be held in the last quarter of 2008 and that, by the end of March 2009, recommendations could be made for a minimum required panel and a standard nomenclature.
The Comparison Test is currently ongoing and first results will be available soon. Please contact Becky Evans or André Eggen may you have any questions on this issue.
